FROM THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

Shurapal II

A brother of Mahipal II and Rampal, associated with the short succession during the Varendra emergency.

Shurapal II is distinguished from the ninth-century Shurapal I. The names are separated by more than two centuries and should not be conflated.

Chronicles present the brothers' relations as troubled. The exact years and circumstances of Shurapal II's reign are uncertain.

His place in the succession helps explain how Rampal eventually inherited a dynasty divided by internal conflict and territorial losses.
