Khalimpur
The charter recalling the founder’s elevation
The Khalimpur copperplate issued by Dharmapal preserves a key account of Gopal’s rise and the royal claim to northern Indian eminence. As with all royal eulogies, it combines invaluable data with dynastic self-presentation.
The significance of this place is best understood through the movement of people and royal power across eastern India. Inscriptions, surviving archaeological remains, early literary texts and museum collections offer different kinds of evidence. None should be forced into a single oversimplified map of imperial borders.
Modern place names and boundaries do not necessarily correspond to historical administrative districts. This entry describes the location as part of the imperial world; it does not imply continuous direct control throughout every reign.
