THE IMPERIAL ARCHIVEEST. c. 750 CE
FROM THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

Guravamisra

Associated with the Badal pillar genealogy.

Through the Badal inscription, Guravamisra’s family placed its memory into the landscape. The text is simultaneously evidence, lineage-making and elite literary self-presentation.

The available sources provide only fragments of a life that intersected with the four-century history of the Pal dynasty. To understand this figure, it is necessary to read surviving charters, later literary accounts and scholarly interpretations together.

The person is included in the archive because imperial history is made not by kings alone, but also by queens, counsellors, opponents, artists, scholars and the creators of political memory.

A note on historical certainty
