THE IMPERIAL ARCHIVEEST. c. 750 CE
FROM THE IMPERIAL CHRONICLE

Dhruva Dharavarsha

The Deccan emperor whose northern expedition affected the balance of power.

Rashtrakuta intervention helped prevent any one northern dynasty from holding enduring supremacy over the Kannauj region. Dhruva’s campaigns belong to that wider triadic struggle.

The available sources provide only fragments of a life that intersected with the four-century history of the Pal dynasty. To understand this figure, it is necessary to read surviving charters, later literary accounts and scholarly interpretations together.

The person is included in the archive because imperial history is made not by kings alone, but also by queens, counsellors, opponents, artists, scholars and the creators of political memory.
