The outstanding literary account is Sandhyakar Nandi’s Ramacharitam. Its verses have a double meaning: one story evokes Rama of the epic, while another narrates Rampal’s reconquest of Varendra. The work is brilliant and unmistakably partisan.
Rampal assembled allies, recovered the region and defeated Bhima. The campaign was a profound dynastic restoration, but historical writing must separate the poem’s eloquent praise from independently demonstrable facts.
The account also preserves rare descriptions of the geography, towns and cultural setting of the late medieval north Bengal court.
